Afredo
MOZAMBIQUE: Afredo is an officially accredited HeroRAT and is doing his part to help Mozambique reach their goal to be landmine free. Afredo is very passionate about the people of Mozambique and loves his work. He is the first to welcome the new arrivals of HeroRATs from Tanzania and the first to share them stories of the real-mine field while they are preparing for their accreditation tests. He looks after our team there.

Chosen One
Chosen One is an experienced landmine detecting rat who has passed all the stages of his training. He is excellent at communicating he has found a mine through strong indications. Chosen One has always been a quick learner with a lot of wisdom.

Edward
MOZAMBIQUE: Edward is an officially accredited HeroRAT and has been working in Mozambique since 2009. He works with his handler, Alfredo, who has been with us from the beginning in Mozambique. Edward is diligent, dedicated, and takes his work seriously.

Ferdinand & Hovokela
Ferdinand has been working along side his partner, Hovekela, for a long time. However, Hovekela was asked in January 2010 to go to Mozambique to assist our demining operations there. So, Ferdinand is now a stay-at-home dad with his son Dismass. Senga, his trainer, is a long-time friend who helps Ferdinand keep an eye on Dismass!

Green Apple
Green Apple is a happy-go-lucky HeroRAT with a perfect trainer (Niko) to match. She is the daughter of a long-time landmine detecting HeroRAT named Mercy, and one of three siblings. She has just the right attitude and enthusiasm for the work to be a successful HeroRAT.

Kim
Kim is passionate about saving humans from Tuberculosis. She was the leader of her class and with training behind her she is devoted to her work detecting TB. She is eager to get to work each day and keen to make her mother and father proud.

MajiMaji
MOZAMBIQUE: MajiMaji is an accredited HeroRAT and joined the team there late last year. She has been looking to get to work on the real-mine field since day one of training and is very happy to be able to go to work saving lives every day. She says there is nothing like the feeling of completing work on a minefield. Knowing the community members will be able to use and pass on that land again, it an amazing thing to be a part of.

Olaf
Olaf is a bright and curious HeroRAT. He is deeply dedicated to his work and pays close attention to his trainer Mark so that one day he can help others by finding landmines. Olaf is named in honor of one of our beloved supporters who passed away unexpectedly in 2009, we hope his namesake will make him proud.

Tyson
Tyson is one of our youngest tuberculosis detecting HeroRATs to pass his training. He is a very active young rat who enjoys life. Tyson is working on perfecting his technique to find tuberculosis in the patient samples we screen. However, his parents, Ahzia and Mario, are skilled TB detectors with years of experience that serves as wonderful role models.

Ziko
MOZAMBIQUE: Ziko is a hard working HeroRAT who completed his training in 2009 and arrived in Mozambique January of 2009. He works with Shaibu and has been extremely focused throughout his training. Ziko recently became a father right before his departure to Mozambique and is a proud papa of 3 new HeroRATS in training.
